1. INTEGRA as a branch of ‘Sami Frasheri” High School - Prishtina
In the very beginning INTEGRA existed as a branch of Youth Group of “Sami Frasheri” High School. As a high school group we have developed many projects regarding the concerns of teens of our age. Implementing projects was part of our school activity, which we enjoyed very much.
During the last 2 years as s high school group we have implemented different projects with the support of local and international organizations. The fields that our group deals with are mainly cultural, educative and humanitarian. Down below we will write some of the projects we have developed in the past:
1.2. PROJECTS
1.2.1. Survey
– Relationship between students and teachers in “Sami Frasheri” High School in Prishtina. This project was implemented on the year of 2000 and was founded by the “Save the Children Foundation UK”. It was implemented on the behalf of the branch of Youth Group of “Sami Frasheri” High School called INTEGRA. It was a quantitative study with 1100 participants. 1000 exemplars were distributed to the students and 100 to the teachers. It was designed to measure the level of the relationship between the students and teachers, applicable educational system, educational conditions in Kosovo, etc. The survey was developed by a professional group that was made of professors and students. It was finalized by the Research Institute INDEX KOSOVA. In order to reduce the costs of the project we engaged 35 students for the operational tasks. The participating students were trained by the project team in field of the research. After the operational tasks the filled up surveys were returned to INDEX KOSOVA for data compilation. The compiled data report was sent to the Ministry of Education, media and to other educational institutions of Prishtina. The main aim of this report was to support the Ministry of Education with data that could help them in their future projects for the Reforming the Educational System in Kosovo.
1.2.2. Schools Magazine “Feniks”
- This project was supported by “Save the Children Foundation UK” and the “Department of Education” of Municipality of Prishtina and it was implemented on the year of 2000 by the INTEGRA branch within the Youth Group of “Sami Frasheri”. First phase of the project was to train the motivated students on the field of the journalism. The students were trained by the volunteer senior journalists. All the journalistic and prepress tasks were done by the students of the High School under the supervision of a volunteer senior journalist. The donator founded only the printing for the first two numbers. First number was given for free to the students and the second one was sold. It was sold out on the day it was published. This made the project sustainable. The project is still on going self sustainable with the support of some marketing. Content of the magazine was suitable for the youth concerns. It was divided in five issues: Education, History, Youth Concerns, Fashion and Youth Trend and Information Technology. The Albanian Language Teachers of the High School checked the magazine for any possible linguistic mistakes.

The hangers were hanged on the doors of Prishtina inhabitants on the night of 30th Novemeber 2002.
1.2.10. NOT FOR SALE project
– Living in a country in transition and in poverty there is always a will for citizens of a better life. In some cases young aged girls accept work abroad in order to secure a better life, not knowing that they have just became a victim of human trafficking. In order to prevent this phenomenon we organized the awareness raising project re human trafficking. This project was supported by the UNICEF HQ Prishtina. As a part of the project we organized a T4T for the students of 7 high schools of Prishtina. After the T4T the trainers under our supervision were in charge of conducting training re the human trafficking within their high schools. In this case through the branches of this project we have raised awareness to all the students of high schools of Prishtina.
These projects were implemented while we were in High School. Since we have graduated from high school, our desire to continue contributing to our society and our teens was never extinguished. Ever since we graduated we have been acting as a local non-governmental organization, called INTEGRA, registered at the UNMIK registration liaison. We have been registered on 08 June 2003 with the registration number 5102086-3.
2. INTEGRA AS A NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION
NGO INTEGRA is an organization formed by young people who are committed to giving their contribution to the recovery and development of Kosovo. Our work is guided by the principle of good governance and full enjoyment of human rights, regardless of ethnicity, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and political belonging, are essential to building a democratic and tolerant Kosovo, fully integrated in the European community.
INTEGRA has marked a great success in implementing cultural, educative and social projects. The greatest success was achieved in field of informal education of youngsters regarding the issues that worries them.
In almost three years of its existence, INTEGRA has worked and cooperated with many non-governmental and governmental organizations. This cooperation helped on creating a network of over 40 organizations around Kosovo for its efficient work in the field. INTEGRA organized “Make Love Not AIDS!” campaign against HIV/AIDS, the biggest awareness raising campaign conducted among high school students.
Due to our commitment to development processes in Kosovo, INTEGRA has worked with the Office of Stabilization and Tracking Mechanism in Prime Minister’s Office in Kosovo, for development of the project “Evropë PRITNA!” (Europe WAIT FOR US!). This project was designed to reach as much as possible the citizens of Kosovo by giving them the opportunity in writing down their ideas about Kosovo toward European Union. Billboards with messages of the citizens of Kosova where given to Prime Minister Mr. Bajram Rexhepi who at that time presented those messages to Commissioner Mr. Chris Patten visiting Kosovo for 9th of May, Europe Day.
Since it is formed and directed by young people, INTEGRA has considered one of its main aims the encouragement and stimulation of youth participation. In cooperation with Fractal (Serbia) and IKV (The Netherlands) we have been implementing the project called “Our Future European Union” aiming to increase information and discussion on European Integration, opening communication channels between Kosovo and Serbia and increasing youth involvement. The project consists of different activities such as peer to peer, study visit, multiethnic summer camp aiming to reach as much youth as possible.
In order to create leisure activities for the high school students, Department of Culture is implementing “Theater Club IN” project which intends to create drama clubs in high schools of Kosovo. This project is to provide more after school activities for the high school students and prepare those students who are interested in continuing the field of acting.
.
During our experience we have learned to take open-minded approach rather than telling people what should they do!
To this end, the founders envisaged the INTEGRA as a vehicle through which young people could give their contributions and become active in rebuilding of society in Kosovo.
In order to have more efficient work, INTEGRA is made by the following departments:
- Department of European Integration and Democratization
